Ruth Marcanti is a versatile artist working in oils, watercolors, acrylics and mixed media. She enjoys painting landscapes and is a member of the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico. If not painting outdoors she works in her studio in Jemez Springs. Ruth is also proficient in Japanese Brush Painting, or Sumi-e and creates works in ink and watercolors. She often paints bird and flower paintings in Sumi-e. Ruth is a retired art teacher and taught high school art in Chicago. She has a Masters of Art from the University of Chicago and studied at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Ruth and her husband Jim relocated to New Mexico in 2009. They enjoy travel and the artist often spends time on Kauai where her family resides. There she enjoys painting ocean views, palm trees, and Hawaiian florals.
