Kay Withers is a native to NM with roots that run deep. Her maiden name is Vigil. A descendant to Doniciano Vigil, Territorial Governor of NM in 1847. Her family still owns land in Pecos. While spending the first half of her life in Albuquerque, her greatest interest was anything artistic, from drawing, music, singing, healing arts, to stain glass art. She loves learning, and is always interested in new ideas and techniques. She received an AA in Albuquerque from CNM, and then moved to MA, where she earned a BS in Communications from Clark University. She was naturally drawn to Advertising due to the creativity it required, however, once she graduated, she learned that her 3-year-old son was on the spectrum of Autism. As heartbreaking as that was to hear, she took the bull by the horns, and became an ABA therapist assistant to learn how to teach him. While that was a very challenging job, being faced with both sides of the coin as a parent and teacher, she was blessed one day when a Reiki Master came into the classroom and offered each of the teachers a mini-reiki session. After experiencing that Ancient Japanese Healing Technique, she was certain she needed to learn that too, not only because would it help her with a stressful job but would assist the kids when they became stressed out. Eventually, she earned a Reiki Certificate for Reiki I,2,3, and many years later she also received a certificate as a Tao Hands Practitioner, which is the practice of using sacred Calligraphy, while singing songs to heal parts of the body, which is a very peaceful healing modality.
As a spiritual person, she started seeing visions of holy spirits such as, Mother Mary, Jesus, Archangels, and many more, and began drawing what she saw. Now, she incorporates her healing practices into her art.
When she moved back to Albuquerque six years ago, she was in Old Town one day, and stumbled upon a man selling stain glass art. She loves colored glass, and after some discussion, she learned that he taught at the local Senior Center, so she started going, and within a few years she was commissioned to make special projects for others. Each piece is one of a kind. She has endless ideas of what to create, and it is her greatest hope that each person who takes home a piece feels the sacred energy flowing from it, from her heart to yours.
